Frances Fisher has appeared in so many movies, stage productions and television projects that it’s hard to count all her roles. A daughter of stay-at-home mom Olga and oil industry worker William, she drew her first breath in Hampshire, England, but spent childhood in various countries because of her father’s work before settling in Texas. When she was 15, her mother passed away and Frances had to take care of her younger brother William.
At the dawn of her career, Fisher acted at theater and, simultaneously, earned her living as a secretary and nanny. In 1976, she landed her first television part, the one of Detective Deborah Saxon in The Edge of Night series, and it brought her fame. The performer proceeded with roles in Guiding Light, Strange Luck, Becker, Glory Days, The Lyon’s Den, Eureka, Touch and Resurrection series along with guest starring in many projects, including Roseanne, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, Two and a Half Men, Fargo.
Frances Fisher debuted on the big screen in the 1983 film Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? before making a breakthrough with Unforgiven in 1992. Among her other film credits are Titanic, The Audrey Hepburn Story, Blue Car, House of Sand and Fog, Laws of Attraction, Jolene, Sedona, The Host, Outlaws and Angels.
In 1970, Fisher tied knots with high school boyfriend Billy Mack Hamilton, but the marriage was dissolved in 1972. In 1988, she got acquainted with Clint Eastwood while filming Pink Cadillac and romantic feelings arose between them. They went public only in 1990 and in 1993, they welcomed daughter Francesca. Nevertheless, the couple broke up in 1995 and it took Frances two years to recover. By the way, in 2018, she became a grandmother of a little boy named Titan.
A curious fact: Frances was chosen for the role of Jill Taylor in Home Improvement, but was replaced by Patricia Richardson because of the lack of chemistry between her and Tim Allen.
