Marion Hugh Knight Jr., who is more famed as Suge Knight, is a music executive. Initially, he played college football and represented University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Later, he worked as a concert promoter and a celebrity bodyguard.
Having enough knowledge and experience in the music industry, Knight, Dr. Dre and The D.O.C. established Death Row Records in 1991. The company was responsible for the international success of such artists as Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur. However, in 2006, Death Row Records was declared bankrupt.
There were many speculations that Suge Knight was involved in Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.’s murders, but he was incarcerated for other reasons. In 1995, he was sentenced to 5-year probation after attacking two rap artists and spent 4 years in prison from 1997 to2001 for its violation. In 2015, Suge killed his pal Terry Carter and injured filmmaker Cle Sloan. As a result, he is now serving the 28-year term in prison.
Knight’s first wife was Sharitha Golden. But he abandoned her to tie knots with music artist Michel’le in 1999. After her break up with Dr. Dre, Michel’le had depression and Suge helped her to cope with the crisis. In 2002, the couple welcomed daughter Bailei. However, their married life was far from being a fairytale. Michel’le later revealed that her husband was very controlling and didn’t allow her to sing. At that time, she felt like a princess in a castle never allowed out. In 2006, the woman filed for a divorce, but it turned out that their marriage was invalid as Suge’s official wife was still Sharitha.
Moreover, Knight has at least 5 more children: son Taj Knight with music artist Davina Barnes as well as sons Andrew, Huge Jacob and Legend. He is also a dad of a girl named Posh.
A curious fact: Suge’s name is rooted in his childhood nickname, Sugar Bear.
