Vitaliy Klitschko became known worldwide thanks to his incredible boxing skills. Moreover, he is an elder brother of another famed boxer, Wladimir Klitschko.
Vitaliy got involved into boxing in the 1980s and turned professional in 1996 after winning Military World Games and being a silver medalist at the World Championship. In 1999, he won his first WBO title followed by WBC, WBA and EBU titles. Klitschko retired from professional sport in 2013 having won 45 fights out of 47. Moreover, he is the only athlete of his class who held world championship in three different decades.
In 2006, Klitschko got engaged into Ukrainian politics. He founded his own party Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform and was selected to the Ukrainian Parliament in 2012. Since 2014, he has been Mayor of Kiev.
Furthermore, Vitaliy Klitschko loves playing chess. Along with his brother, he takes part in various charitable campaigns. He also holds a PhD degree in sport science and philosophy as well as speaks Russian, Ukrainian, English plus German fluently. In 2011, both Vitaliy and Wladimir starred in documentary Klitschko, telling about their rise to sports stardom.
In 1996, Klitschko espoused Natalia Yegorova who dealt with modeling. Today, they raise three kids together.
A curious fact: asteroid 212723 Klitschko, discovered by Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory in Ukraine in 2007, got its name in honor of the Klitschko brothers. Moreover, in 2010, the Ukrainian postal service issued postage stamps featuring the famed athletes.
