Initially, Carey Lowell tried to build a career in the fashion industry and modeled for Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein brands. In 1986, she made an acting debut in Dangerously Close movie. Afterwards, she landed parts in Down Twisted, Me and Him, Licence to Kill and The Guardian.
Lowell’s first television appearance happened in 1998 in the Road to Ruin film, but she gained worldwide recognition thanks to portraying Jamie Ross in the Law & Order series. Her other famed TV projects are Six Degrees and Homicide: Life on the Street. Additionally, she had a voice role in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
In 1984-1988, Carey was a wife of photographer John Stember. In 1989, she got hitched to Griffin Dunne and in 1990, they welcomed daughter Hannah. However, the marriage was dissolved in 1995, the year Lowell got romantically involved with Richard Gere. She gave birth to son Homer in 2000 and became Gere’s spouse on November 9, 2002. Unfortunately, the marriage ended in 2016.
A curious fact: in childhood, Carey lived in several countries, including Libya, the Netherlands and France.
