Summer Phoenix is an actress and a former spouse of Casey Affleck. Hailing from Winter Park, FL, she is a daughter of John and Arlyn Phoenix, a social activist. She has four siblings, all of which either deal or dealt with acting. They are River, Rain, Liberty and Joker star Joaquin Phoenix.
In 1984, Summer made a television debut in an episode of Airwolf and proceeded with small parts in other projects, including Growing Pains and ER. Among her movie credits are Girl, Esther Kahn, The Believer, Suzie Gold, All at Once and The Mad Whale. What is more, the performer starred in the 2002 production of Kenneth Lonergan’s play This Is Our Youth with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.
Additionally, Summer Phoenix showed her music skills while performing with her sister Rain for The Causey Way and Papercranes bands. In 2003, she decided to try her hand at business and launched a vintage clothing store Some Odd Rubies that worked for 9 years.
In the 1990s, Summer and Casey were introduced to each other by Joaquin, who was close friends with Affleck. They started dating in 2000 and appeared together in a Committed film later that year. Casey popped the question in 2004 and espoused his sweetheart on June 3, 2006. At that time, they were already parents of a two-year-old son named Indiana. In 2008, their son Atticus became the newest addition to the family.
The family of two celebrities seemed to be strong even when Casey was accused of sexual harassment by his colleagues in 2010. However, their ways parted in 2015. The divorce was finalized in 2017, but the ex-spouses preferred to remain friends.
A curious fact: Summer’s family name was initially Bottom, but her parents changed it to Phoenix after the mythical bird that rises from its ashes.
